Grimsby was once a very important fishing port, and while everything has scaled down a lot, what with EU fishing quotas
and people choosing different careers, there is still a fair bit of fish related activity, and lots of chip shops
and fish factories. This is reflected in the first attraction that came to mind, the National Fishing heritage centre, close
to Freshney Place which is the main local shopping centre. Even the some of the pubs reflect the nautical theme
of the food town, there is the Lincoln Castle close to the Heritage Centre and the Ross Tiger, and another popular pub is
the barge, which is well exactly what it says, a barge on the Freshney. It even has a deliberate tilt in it, probably a
ploy to make the unsuspecting think they are more drunk than they are. But i'd best get off pubs and back to attractions.
There's Grimsby Auditorium which hopefully I'm catching a concert at next month. Waltham Windmill, which is always popular
and I may check out again cos I havn't been for years. Cleethorpes of course has it sandy beach with donkey rides, there
are several promenade gardens full of bright flowers, a paddling pool, a boating lake, a light railway and open top buses
running along the sea front. There's even our own theme park near by, Pleasure Island.

Which leads us nicely onto restaurants. Well we have about 10 MacDonalds's in the area!. Seriously thought, there are
some really nice places round here. The pub grub I will get onto later. There is a fantastic restaurant in Cleethorpes Market
Place called Valentino's which I would thoroughly recommend, they are friendly, always create a little space for me when I
go in and are also extremely child friendly. Steels in Cleethorpes is also good, it has an excellent reputation and if you
asked people in the area to recommend a restaurant most of them would say Steels. Stay tuned for more additions to this section
as I get the site built up.
Fiddlers, formerly Schuberts |

Good link from restaurants to pubs, as they do excellent pub grub |
The Fiddlers (formerly known as Schuberts), is a popular pub with shoppers and visitors to Cleethorpes
at lunchtimes following a big refurbishment. Alongside a good range of beers and quality food, Most evenings they have
a DJ. Sports facilities include a big screen & 6 TV's to watch that all important match on.
My favourite pub in Cleethorpes has to be O' Neills, but unfortunately I am unable to find a pic
at the moment. As the name suggests, its an Irish bar, and the craic is brilliant. Pub grub in the day (a wonder I manage
to stay slim) and on the nighttime music playing, on the weekends by DJ and the rest of the week they play various types
of music (I'm told on mp3, and if you want something ask the barmaid she will go look for you) This pub is often my first
stop when I go to Cleethorpes on a night out, and I always end up in there at some point if only for a pint on the way to
the next pub or club.
The Cricketers is a large 40 year old pub set in a quiet residential area of Grimsby. A Wacky
Warehouse was built next to the pub, being the ultimate play facility for the children, with 100% satisfaction guaranteed.
The Wacky is available for children up to 4ft 9ins tall and as well as general use there are special toddler sessions throughout
the week. In the main pub theres a full range of beers, lagers and real ales. There is also a Two for One deal
on meals which lets you have a free main meal if you order for at least two people and purchase a main course at full price. They
also claim to host the most difficult pub quiz in the area, which is extremely popular. So if you have a family
or would just like to socialize with a meal, this is laso an excellent choice.
